Grading

Students receive grades on their report cards for art starting in 4th grade. The students are graded based on their art projects during the trimester and also receive a combined score for classroom participation, effort, and behavior. Below you will the find the grading standards and scale.

C - Consistently

Student demonstrates the lesson skills. An understanding of skills, concepts, and media are shown.

Student independently demonstrates:

  • Most skills independently

  • Good craftsmanship

  • Knowledge of personal aesthetics (artistic sensibility and decision-making)

O - Occasionally

Students demonstrates lesson skills but needs instructional support to complete all the desired skills.

Student with support demonstrates:

  • All or most skills

  • Developing craftsmanship

  • Developing knowledge of aesthetics

R - Rarely

Student is NOT yet able to demonstrate lesson skills with significant instructional support; the skill requires further practice.

Student with support is NOT able to demonstrate:

  • Most skills

  • A concern for craftsmanship

  • A knowledge of aesthetics

Demonstrates respectful citizenship and participates with enthusiasm

C - Consistently

  • Follows classroom rules and procedures with no reminders.

  • Needs no reminders to stay on task

  • Diligently works on required classwork to specified standards.

  • Shows initiative by striving to contribute more than just meeting grade level expectation.

  • Asks for assistance in an appropriate way.

  • Always participates with meaningful and exceptional use of art skills during class.

  • Consistently exhibits respectful behavior toward teachers, students, and materials.

O - Occasionally

  • Follows classroom rules and procedures with one reminder.

  • Mostly on task may require one reminder to stay on task.

  • Diligently works on required classwork to specified standards.

  • Contributes meeting grade level expectations

  • Asks for assistance in an appropriate way.

  • Participates with meaningful and exceptional use of art skills during class.

  • Occasionally exhibits respectful behavior toward teachers, students, and materials

R - Rarely

  • Has difficulty following classroom rules and procedures. Requires 4 or more reminders.

  • Requires 4 or more reminders to stay on task.

  • Often gains attention through inappropriate means.

  • Ask for assistance in an inappropriate way or does not ask for help when needed.

  • Rarely participates in class or comments with below grade level expectations.

  • Rarely exhibits respectful behavior toward teachers, students, and materials.
