Room 314 is based on positivity as much as possible! Individually, students work toward earning special classroom privileges like extra recess, free time, and lunch in the classroom. Students can also earn fun stickers from our "Stick to Good Choices" bulletin board throughout the year. We use Hawk Tickets, too, which are part of our school wide behavior program.
In addition to this management system (above), our class uses Class Dojo to earn points for positive behaviors. Some ways students earn positive points are: Following the HAWK rules, class participation, being a leader, showing kindness or helpfulness, etc. Students keep track of their points on their iPad and on a class sticker chart. For every 50 points a student earns on Dojo, they receive ten HAWK tickets to spend at our monthly HAWK store.
Students can also have points removed, althought we do this way less frequently than gaining points. Students can lose points for things like: not following the HAWK rules, being off task, distracting others, hallway or bathroom behavior, or having to go back to the classroom for forgotten materials.
As a school, we will be continuing our second year in SWIBPS, which is a school-wide program geared toward following school rules. Individually, students normally earn HAWK tickets for following the school-wide rules, which are:
H = Have Respect
A = Act Responsibly
W = Work Hard
K = Keep Safe
Because of COVID restrictions, we are not going to begin the year using HAWK tickets. ClassCraft will be our main source of positive reinforcement used within the classroom.
When COVID restrictions are lifted and we resume HAWK ticket distribution, these HAWK tickets will be kept in in the students' pencil cases, and then traded in once a month for prizes and special privileges. If a student receives a special pink ticket from a substitute teacher or another color ticket from the bus driver, they will be worth double the points! If a student is given a large purple ticket for demonstrating the month's character trait, that will be worth 10 tickets.
As a school, there will be special activities for students who earn enough tickets to participate. As a fifth grade, students will also be able to trade in tickets for special activities. For example, at the beginning of the school year, students will be given one water balloon to throw at their teacher for ten tickets.
