Lunch Information

First Grade Lunch

Dear First Grade Parents/Guardians,

Below you will find some helpful information to help make your child’s lunch experience a positive one.

Each student is issued a "Student I.D. Card" (SNAP card). Money can be deposited into the student's account. The deposit can be made with cash or check made payable to: "EAST PENN SCHOOL DISTRICT CAFETERIA FUND". We recommend writing a check as this creates a written document to trace payment should a problem arise. You may monitor your child's account and track all purchases through this website: www.schoolcafe.com. Cash or check should be marked in an envelope and given to your child's teacher at the beginning of the school day and will be sent to the school office for deposit into his/her cafeteria account.

WHEN DEPOSITING MONEY INTO STUDENT ACCOUNTS, PLEASE REMEMBER:

~Make checks payable to "East Penn School District Cafeteria Fund".

~ Include the student's name and I.D. number on the check.

~If the check covers more than one student per family, please put each of the students’ names on the check/name of school and how much is to be deposited into each student's account.

~If the last name of the printed name on the check is different than the student's last name, please include entire name of student on the check.

~If depositing money by cash please place money in a sealed envelope, with student name and I.D. Number printed on the envelope.

This is a debit operating system, not a charge account operating system. Students who deposit cash or a check into their account will be able to purchase a school lunch or ala-carte items without the need to carry money. Students must present their SNAP Card to the cashier whether or not they are making a purchase by cash or using their account. Each time the student purchases a school lunch or ala-carte item using money that has been deposited into their account, the students' money in their account will decrease. Please note all of the lunch, milk, and ala- carte prices on your child’s lunch menu. The cost of lunch is $2.40 this year. Students who receive a free or reduced lunch will follow the same procedures as outlined above. Their automatic debits will be made at the free or reduced lunch rate. Any student that accumulates a negative balance in his/her cafeteria account will receive a balance letter to bring home. Payment is required within one week from receiving the letter.

First graders have the option on certain days to choose an alternate lunch. Please check the lunch menu each night and discuss with your child his/her lunch decision for the following day. This will help your child become independent during morning routines at school when noting his/her lunch choice for the day.

Another option that first graders have is to buy an extra snack separate from their regular lunch. All ala-carte items are an additional cost. Please discuss with your child whether you allow him/her to buy an extra snack at lunch. If you do not want your child to purchase extra snacks, please make sure your child is aware of this.
