This video tells a little about what I have been teaching your students during their computer class. We have talked about a few parts of our brain, the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex. The amygdala is the "boss" downstairs in this video and the prefrontal cortex is the upstairs leader. Breathing, stretching, and talking to someone about what we're feeling are 3 great ways to help feel better, to make good choices any place, and help us to stay calm so that we are quiet and respectful for optimal learning during the school day.

*Keep a steady routine at home with your children. Make sure that your mental health is in check. Your children will sense things going on that aren't "right" whether you're discussing what's going on or not...even young children know something is going on and will mirror your behavior if you're stressed/angry. Try to do things that will help you feel balanced like going out for a walk, journaling, setting up a daily schedule (great example in pbis link below), listening to music, yoga/meditation/prayer alone, find some place quiet if at all possible and take slow, deep breaths, and know that this will not be forever! We are all in this together and if you need to meet with me for counseling help, my email is bodom@eastland.esc14.net. I have a zoom account, and we can meet on there, or I could call you to visit with you or your children!
