The winner of the 2015 East Holmes Mock Caldecott Medal, chosen as the best picture book published in 2014, goes to . . .
The Monkey Goes Bananas, by C.P. Bloom, illustrated by Peter Raymundo. Our Caldecott Honor book is Quest, by Aaron Becker. The Monkey Goes Bananas is a hilarious story of a monkey trying to get to an island that has bananas. Quest is a fantasy story with breathtaking illustrations involving a boy and girl using their creativity (and their special crayons) to save a king and his kingdom.
The winner of the 2015 East Holmes Mock Newbery Medal, chosen as the best contribution to children's literature, usually an upper elementary novel, goes to...
The Fourteenth Goldfish, by Jennifer L. Holm. Our Newbery Honor book is The Last Wild, by Piers Torday. The Fourteenth Goldfish explores the idea of finding a "fountain of youth," but does so in a light, whimsical manner. The Last Wild is about a world where animals no longer exist; at least people think they no longer exist.
