Appendix R - Safety Drills

Safety Drills

All District Schools:

Due to the governor's public health emergency declaration which is renewed every 30 days, the NJ Division of Fire Safety has stated that fire drills are currently not required during the summer months and will remain relaxed until the Health Emergency is lifted.

The requirement for safety drills has not changed (one per month). The district will adhere to the following advice from the NJ Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning.

The district will begin the school year with a parent notification drill using School Messenger in September during the first 15 days of school to test our ability to communicate to parents in the event of an emergency.

In October, the district will stage a Share911 internal communication drill to test our ability to communicate with staff. We will inform both parents and staff prior to these drills.

We will await further guidance via monthly webinars regarding state-mandated drills (2 active shooters, 2 evacuations, 2 bomb threats, and 2 lockdowns).
