From Jake Nunnemacher:
I have been asked a couple of questions about an ESS being installed in detached buildings (workshop/shed/garage) and the requirements. I hope my research will be able to help you:
Is a smoke/heat alarm required over the ESS? No per 2020 NFPA 855: 15.9.1 (only for in-home, or attached garages)
Does the area in the detached building for the ESS need to have 5/8th Type X sheetrock installed? Depends (I received an NFPA staff interpretation). If the area in the detached building is finished or non-combustible, then no. However, if the detached building is unfinished (like most of them), then 5/8th Type X sheetrock needs to be installed per 2020 NFPA 855: 15.4.2. See below.
From John:
Pride is now owned by GPM investments, LLC out of Nevada. They will be changing all operations to National Companies i.e. hood cleaning and fire protection i.e. fire extinguishers, fire suppression and fire alarms. Hood Pro’s conducted the hood cleaning and I believe Mass Fire Technologies & All State Fire Equipment conducted the fire extinguisher inspections & fire Suppression. Point of contact will be Amber Gibbs 1-303-888-9852 email address agibbs@gpminvestments.com. Note they hire Commercial Fire Protection out of Florida whom will sub contract out the work to licensed companies that do work in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Here the locations due this month for hood cleaning which Hood Pro’s conducted on Quarterly basis.
Springfield 77 West St
Holyoke location
Feeding Hills
East Longmeadow
Belchertown
Westfield
I strongly recommend that each fire Department and FPO that have a Pride store in their town conduct inspections commercial hood or not if you haven’t conducted a self serve inspection at any location I recommend you make this a priority.

Updated 3-2022
April 7th 2022 email shared out:
Good afternoon. Just wanted to give you all a heads up that a mass e-mailing went out to all hood cleaning companies yesterday reminding them of the upcoming label requirement changes on July 1st. The attached example memorandum was sent to all active and expired companies. This is the 2nd memorandum that has been sent out, and there will more than likely be another mailing before July 1st.
Companies that have been renewing their HCI since last year have been informed that their labels will need to meet the new requirements as of July 1, 2022. All companies who submit a non-compliant label with the renewal after July 1st will not be renewed until compliant labels are submitted. The biggest changes to the labels are the requirement to have the HCI#, serial numbers, and non-compliant labels shall have "NON-COMPLIANT” printed on each label.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
Matt
