Meet Mrs. Meeks

My name is Mrs. Meeks and I have been a teacher for the past 24 years, 22 as a Middle School Science Teacher and 2 as the district STEAM teacher.  I am a mom to three boys, only one is still in high school. My husband is also a teacher in another school district. In my spare time I like to travel, go on cruises and spend my summers at the Jersey Shore with my family.

Beginners

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, Beginners will be learning how to program a robot using blocks to build programs. This robot they use will be the Kibo Bot, which is designed for little hands and simple building block commands that they scan.  To learn more about Kibo, please click the link below.

1st Grade

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, 1st Graders will be learning how to program a robot using color coded markers. This robot uses a camera that reads the color patterns that the student draws and will respond with an action.  To learn more about Ozobot, please click the link below.

2nd Grade

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, 2nd Graders will be learning how to program a robot using block coding. The students will learn how to program the robots using the iPad and a program called Blockly. They will use these simple block commands to program the robot to complete a variety of tasks and challenges.  To learn more about Ozobot, please click the link below.

3rd Grade STEAM

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, 3rd Graders will be building on thier block coding skills from 2nd grade. The students will learn how to program DASH robots using the iPad and a program called Blockly. They will use these simple block commands to program the robot to complete a variety of tasks and challenges.  To learn more about DASH, please click the link below.

DASH

4rd Grade STEAM

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, 4th Graders will be taking thier programming skills to the next level. They will be faced with challenges for DASH to complete using the skills they learned previously. While still using the iPads they have to navigate DASH through different tasks that will test thier programming skills.  To learn more about DASH, please click the link below.

5th Grade STEAM

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, 5th Graders will be learning how to fly drones using the Drone Legends program. Students will learn the basics of drone flight while seeing how drones are used in real world applications. As they build their skills, they will be faced with challenges that will test their flying skills. By the end of the program students will learn how to use their block programming skills to have the drone fly autonomously. To learn more about Drone Legends, please click the link below.

6th Grade STEAM

Using engineering and design strategies, students will be working in cooperative groups, while also using their ideas to solve problems with creative solutions.

In addition to engineering and design, 6th Graders will be learning how to build and program the Lego Spike Prime robots. Students will use block program skills from previous years to help them complete challenges with a more advanced robot. Students will also be learning how to use Tinkercad to create a name plate  to 3D print using our own 3d printers.  Once they have mastered the basics, they will create their own artifact they researched from an ancient civilization.
