THE EASTERN EDGE
|Elementary Badging|
Eastern York School District is committed to raising student achievement by clearly articulating what students need to "KNOW AND DO" to achieve proficiency in all content areas. We call this, "TRANSPARENCY OF LEARNING." We're excited to implement standards-based learning and grading using a new badging platform designed to make student progress easy to understand for all involved. We believe this system is essential for supporting learner variability as we seek to design instruction in the classroom that affords students the opportunities to make choices in their learning and to move at their own pace.
Check out the EYSD Badging Resource Site (Every K-5 badge and proficiency scale).
The badges will change as teachers assess mastery using a Learning Proficiency Scale.
"Beginning" indicates a topic/skill that has been introduced to the class, and students need their teacher's support to complete tasks associated with it.
"Developing" indicates a topic/skill that students have shown to understand component parts of. While they may lack understanding of the big picture, they are learning and practicing some of the prerequisites required to be able to apply knowledge/skill.
"Proficient" indicates that students have shown a solid understanding of a topic or skill and are starting to apply that knowledge at least at the rigor of the standards set by the commonwealth.
