Build-a-thon

Do you have an idea for the Buildathon? If so make a copy of this project template, fill it out with your proposal, and add it to this folder by Sept 1, 2019

A good Build-a-thon project idea is:

  • limited in scope such that it is realistically executable in 4.5 hours by a group of 4-5 people
  • using 1 or more mapping tools & technologies like Earth Engine, My Maps, Earth, Plus Codes, ODK, etc
  • a starting point to a larger project, if not the entire project

How do I join a group?

  • Check out the project proposals and identify a project that you like
  • Identify your area of expertise:

You don’t have to be an “expert” in any of these areas per say- the goal of this exercise is mainly to identify what role you’d like to take up within the group and what you’d be able to contribute.

    • Tool Expert - are you familiar with Earth Engine, ODK, My Maps or any of the tools the project is planning to use? If yes, add yourself under the Tool Expert column
    • Project Management - are you good at turning ideas into projects and leading teams to execute it? If yes, mark yourself for project management.
    • Domain Expert (e.g Agriculture) - do you have a background in the scientific domain the proposed project works in? have you done any research on the subject previously? If so, you can be a good domain expert to have on the team
    • Programmer - are you a programmer who likes to build apps, dashboards and get their hands dirty? Do you have hands-on experience working on projects? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, add yourself as a programmer.
  • Indicate your role clearly against your name and email-id in the proposal so that project leader/proposer can contact you.
