The 40-Book Challenge is a voluntary challenge that is meant to be fun and encourage students to explore different genres and enjoy reading. It is a vetted program based on “The Book Whisperer” by Donalyn Miller, and is meant to encourage students, teachers, and families to embrace a culture of reading and develop a love of literature.
Students have a tracker on Google Classroom where they can mark their books and genres read.
Completion awards will be given out at the end of the year!
Students CAN count picture books; however, they are expected to read 5 picture books to count as 1 book for the challenge.
Similar to the Great Utahn Challenge, The Great American Challenge has a series of tasks designed to help students become more well-rounded and informed citizens. This challenge is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the United States government, symbols, and more.
I would love for all students to give this challenge a try. I am not requiring it, but I am encouraging everyone to give it their best shot.
Students can pass off tasks throughout the year and can retry each task as many times as they need.
There will be a wonderful awards ceremony at the end of the year for all participants and their families to attend!
