Grading

&

Attendance

This year is a new beast! To help you navigate what the grading expectations are I've noted some things below.

*Update:
As we enter into Term 2 it is very important that students are keeping up with their work. Please remember that math Independent Practice pages are due every day for points. There is also a Mastery Connect quiz nearly every day for math. Social Studies quizzes are each Tuesday. Utah Compose submissions for paragraph practice are due each Thursday. Every Friday we have our tests for Spelling, Vocabulary, and CCRs (reading comprehension) as well as Reflex and Lexia time. Please remember that Reflex, Lexia, and i-Ready should be done **every day**. Science quizzes or tests we try to do on Thursdays, but are not every week. Anything your students is asked to do on "scratch" paper, on a worksheet, or any other physical representation needs to be turned in just in case it is their participation grade for that day.

Google Classroom, you will notice that your student will have many "missing assignments" for days when they attend school in person-especially now that we are in class daily Monday-Thursday. You do not need to be concerned about those assignments unless they are missing something in Aspire. In that case, you need to go to that date and assignment in G.C. to complete the graded assignment. Keep in mind that just because the assignment is marked as "Completed" it does not mean that your student has gone to the extension webistes (i.e. Mastery Connect, Lexia, Vocabulary A-Z, Reflex, etc.) and done the work. It only means that they've clicked that they have.

I will be pulling grades directly from the platforms where they take their assessments to enter into Aspire. I will be updating all missing assignment grades each Saturday throughout the term.

Fridays are a normal online school day for everyone- even Daily students. Many of your student's grades are taken from Friday assessments, so it's important not to be M.I.A. on those days. Attendance will be taken on Fridays as well.

Aspire: if you find that there are assignments marked as "missing" in Aspire--this is the important part!! 1- Go to the date of the missing assignment in Google Classroom, 2- Find the subject/assignment that is missing under that day, 3- Make sure all instructions are followed. Some Nearpods will not give you the Mastery Connect code until the end of the Nearpod. This is to ensure that your student has had an opportunity to learn the information prior to checking their understanding. It would be a good idea to have them repeat the instructions in G.C. prior to the assessment to refresh their memory.

Attendance for days at home will be determined by whether or not the student selects "Yes" under the assignment titled "(date) ATTENDANCE" in Google Classroom. If they do not check "yes" as their response, they will be considered absent for the day. This will be checked daily for the previous day and updated in Aspire accordingly starting Monday, September 28, 2020.

**If you have a concern or question that is not addressed herein please let me know, and I will add to the information on this page for all parents.**
