Our trip To saint paul's cathedral

As part of our learning about Sacred Spaces and the Great Fire of London, Year 2 Jade were treated to a remarkable day out to St Paul’s Cathedral. The children were astonished by the beauty of this iconic building. Some of children were able to dress up as part of our learning: Taheem was able to dress up as a bishop, Batuhan as Thomas Farynor, Sham as King Charles II, Robin as Christopher Wren and Zayan as Samuel Pepys. They looked incredible! We also got to admire the dome and the many beautiful statues. We lit a candle as a parting gift to this wonderful building.

We have been learning about Internet Safety. Look at our informative posters that we made with our parents as part of our homework.

Gymnastics

Year 2 Jade have been learning how to do different rolls and shapes in Gymnastics. They have learnt how to do a log roll, a teddy bear roll, a side tuck and a forward roll. They have had fun making shapes with their bodies including: a straight, a star, a dish, an arch, a front support and a back support. Over the next few weeks, they will be putting these together into a sequence.

Our TRIp to the florence nightingale museum

Year 2 Jade went to visit Florence Nightingale at her fascinating museum in London. They learnt all about her Early years and about her beloved family and pets. The children even got to dress up and act out being Scutari nurses and injured soldiers from the Crimean War. Afterwards, they split up into three groups in order to discover various amazing artefacts in her museum. They drew her pet owl, Athena, her dress and her famous Turkish lamp called a fanoos. Finally, they learnt all about her legacy and what modern nurses and hospitals have learnt from significant nurses such as Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.

black History month

We learnt all about the amazing Kora player called Sona Jobarteh from The Gambia. Her music and her philosophy is so inspirational!

We sketched a kora and used watercolours to paint them.

PSHE- People who help us

Today we had a visit from Policewoman Bell. She told us all about her different pieces of equipment that allow her to do her job. Some of the Year 2s even got to dress up in her gear. I hope you recognise Policeman Princeton.

Lola's Magical Suitcase

Last week, we arrived in our classroom to find that Lola(from Charlie and Lola) had left her childhood suitcase with us. Inside we found various incredible items: a thesaurus, some colourful clothing, her famous hairclips and a letter from Lola herself!

She challenged us to make our very own dictionaries and thesauruses. We used the Chrome books to help us. It was great fun! Now we can use our fantastic vocabulary in our own stories.

London FirE brigade

The Year 2s were visited by Hayley from the London Fire Brigade. They learnt which number to call in case of an emergency (999), what to do in case of a fire and how important it is to check your fire alarms! Hayley suggested that each child practice how to leave their houses safely in case of a fire. Year 2 Jade really enjoyed our visit from the London Fire Brigade!
