Want to be part of shaping student life at Westlake? Student Council is where ideas turn into action. From major events like Prom and Homecoming to school traditions like pep rallies and spirit days, StuCo is focused on building experiences that bring our campus together and leave a lasting impact.
GenCo is our service and execution team. Members support events throughout the year by helping plan, set up, and run projects that keep StuCo moving.
To stay in good standing, you must earn 6 StuCo points per semester through service opportunities and meeting participation. GenCo meetings and Class Caucus each earn 0.5 points, up to a maximum of 3 points per semester.
You are also expected to attend at least one meeting per month to stay informed and connected. If you have a school-related conflict that prevents attendance, communicate with Cabinet in advance so it does not affect your membership status.
You may apply any points beyond the 6 required toward other programs (such as NHS or Chaps in Service), with a few important guidelines:
Meeting points cannot be used for other organizations
No hour or point may count for more than one organization
Points do not roll over from semester to semester
Students who do not earn at least 6 points in a semester will be removed from GenCo. Members in good standing are eligible to run for Class Office in March.
Executive Board members take on a deeper leadership role. EB includes:
Weekly EB meetings
Participation in your Class Caucus project
Required EB service opportunities
Each missed obligation counts as one strike. After three strikes, members must complete make-up credit or step down from EB, as determined by Cabinet. If a member steps down, they may remain in GenCo if they meet GenCo requirements.
Senior Cabinet members meet all Executive Board expectations and also:
Enroll in the Student Leadership class
Actively participate during four class periods per week
Not meeting these expectations will result in a failing grade for the class period.
StuCo does not differentiate between excused and unexcused absences. Members are expected to manage commitments and communicate around conflicts. School-related conflicts may be considered when determining make-up credit, but repeated or avoidable scheduling issues can lead to removal from GenCo or stepping down from EB.
Students who have participated in GenCo for at least six semesters and either earned 40+ points or served on Executive Board will earn the red & white graduation cord, recognizing sustained commitment and meaningful contribution to Service. Leadership. Spirit.
Check out the StuCo Canvas Sandbox for projects and point opportunities.
