Congressional Debate

Course Overview

Students on the Congressional Debate Squad are members of the Westlake Speech & Debate team. Advanced debate theory and practice will be the focus of the course, refining the student’s skills in analysis, research, organization, synthesis, evaluation, and speaking. Students must attend at least eight tournaments throughout the course of the year. Additionally, team participation dues will be assessed in order to cover the cost of tournament entry fees, judging fees, and necessary materials ($300 per semester). Students must also adhere to the WHS Speech & Debate Handbook, which students and parents sign.

Class Calendar

Google Classroom

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.
