Course Overview
Students will study texts both as a reader and a writer. Students analyze literary fiction and non-fiction. Some of the texts include The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, Tell-Tale Heart, Flowers for Algernon, The Outsiders, and Night. Students will also participate in a variety of outside writing contests. Reading, Writing, Mechanics, and Vocabulary are the 4 cornerstones of the course that will focus on preparing students for high school classes. All students will complete an inquiry project, selecting topics and producing a product that reflects personal learning.
Class Calendar
Required Materials/Class Supplies:
☐ 1 spiral notebook with 100+ pages- size 81/2 X 11 pages (This is NOT like the ones you’ve had in the past.) Students will be asked to repurchase a notebook if they have the typical, smaller notebook.

☐ binder/folder for handouts
☐ The Outsiders - (can be digital or hard copy)
☐ glue sticks (5 GLUE STICKS donated to class)
