French

Welcome! Bienvenue!

French is one of the top 5 languages spoken worldwide. According to the Francophone Alliance of the World, it is spoken by approximately 88 member states and governments worldwide. 29 countries use French as their official language. 409 million people speak French as their primary language worldwide. On the North American continent, eleven territories, states, or countries speak or use French in a formal or informal capacity.

Introducing a foreign language at an early age furthers cultural understanding and appreciation. As we explore how the French speakers of the world use their language to express thoughts and philosophy, we cultivate a broader perspective of our own world. Many of the worlds leading philosophers have emerged from the French language. Some of the most well known French philosophers are Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Foucault, Sartre, and Camus, among others.

The curriculum Hill Country Middle School follows is T'es Branché, which is the first year French curriculum from Westlake High School.
