Once upon a time ... a young girl came to the United States with her parents and began her American adventure at the age of 13. It was the beginning of 8th grade at Brookside Middle School in Sarasota, Florida and I was a nervous wreck! Growing up in Germany, we were required to study English, but I quickly learned that the little British English I had learned was proving itself to be quite different from the English I needed to conquer 8th grade. It was a challenge, but I persevered and studied to become proficient as quickly as possible. That was in 1983.

Growing up multi-culturally has given me a deep appreciation for the many gifts and opportunities languages offer us and enhance our lives. My native language is German, but a part of my family is from France. My parental grand-mother was from Metz, in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France and she spoke exclusively French as she entered her final years. As a child I learned French through family and travels and then continued to further my French language knowledge all throughout my schooling career. I earned a Bachelors of Arts in French and have a deep love and passion for the French language and it's global presence.

My Masters of Education degree focused on curriculum design and development. These studies help me to be able to interpret and enhance the classroom learning environment using innovative and fun educational activities. After all, language and communication are what connects us all in one way or another. Language is rhythm, art, a song, poetry, expression! It is my absolute joy to share my knowledge with our students and be inspired by their thirst for learning.

I come to EANES ISD from Austin ISD where I have worked as a long-term substitute teacher for the past year waiting for an opportunity to teach French to our next generation. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to be a part of the EANES ISD academic community.
