Per national guidelines, at minimum, NJHS members must maintain:
a GPA average of a 92.5 in the 4 core classes
Failure to maintain the above grade expectations by the end of the 9 week grading period will result in 1 strike. NJHS members will have a 3 week probationary period to raise their grades, and if unable to do so, will be dismissed from the organization.
NJHS members are expected to behave in a way that exemplifies the core values of NJHS: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. If at any time the NJHS sponsors are notified that you are not showing behavior expected of an NJHS member, you will receive 1 or more strikes(s) depending on your actions.
NJHS members are required to attend all NJHS meetings. If an NJHS member knows they will be absent for a meeting, notify the NJHS sponsors as soon as possible.
being absent without prior notification to the NJHS sponsors will result in 1 strike
meetings begin at 8:00 AM – being 5 or more minutes late is considered an absence
members who do not meet the 75% requirement of meeting attendance will be dismissed from the organization (8 out of 11 meetings)
NJHS members must complete 9 service hours each 9 week grading period.
3 service hours must come from NJHS events. Service that does not include 3 hours from NJHS events will result in 1 strike.
Any service hours under 9 hours will result in 1 strike.
Three strikes over the course of an NJHS session (August-March) will result in dismissal.
The following are considered FLAGRANT VIOLATIONS and will result in immediate dismissal from National Junior Honor Society, with or without a referral.
Article VIII, Section 5 of the National Junior Honor Society Constitution states: "members who resign or are dismissed are never again eligible for membership or its benefits."
*Resignation or dismissal from NJHS has no bearing on future consideration for membership in NHS in high school.
NJHS members must not forge a parent, teacher, service coordinator, and/or sponsor signature; this includes forgery of service hours.
NJHS members must not lie about attendance, this includes: answering the meeting attendance question if you were not there, having someone answer the meeting attendance question for you, answering the meeting attendance question for someone else.
NJHS members must not receive a disciplinary referral for ANY reason.
NJHS members must not practice academic dishonesty which includes: plagiarism, cheating, i.e., copying your friend's homework, taking pictures of an assignment, quiz, or test for yourself or for sharing it with your peers.
NJHS members must not use violence against administration, teachers, staff, or other peers; they must not use violence against school property.
NJHS members must not use inappropriate language which includes, but is not limited to: profanity, sexual innuendos, and slurs of ANY type.
NJHS members must not be disrespectful towards administration, teachers, and/or staff, this includes, but is not limited to: refusing to work, telling an adult no, talking back, etc.
NJHS members must not be disrespectful towards their peers, this includes, but is not limited to: excluding peers, starting or spreading rumors about peers, speaking to peers with a sarcastic, rude, or dismissive tone, etc.
NJHS members must not cut class which include, but is not limited to: a student avoiding class on purpose without administration or teacher permission, roaming the halls during class, hanging out in the bathroom to waste class time, in another teacher's classroom without notifying the current teacher, etc.
NJHS members must not participate in drug or alcohol use on school property, at a school function, or on any digital platform.
NJHS members must not participate in bullying (on campus, off campus, or on any digital platform) which includes, but is not limited to: racism, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia or cyberbullying.
NJHS members must not demonstrate inappropriate use of technology.
