Independent Study 1 and 2

I will need to take just 1 grade each week starting

next week. Due by Friday evening, you will need to

type up a summary of what you have done for the week.

It does NOT have to be elaborate. If you do not have

software installed on your computer to continue what

you started, don't worry about it. We cannot require

you to install software on your personal devices, and

you can only install software from the Eanes Store on

your iPad. So code academy is fine or some other similar

environment. If you are writing code, you need to send

me the code for that week as well.

Example 1:

I have worked on C++ on codecademy.com this week.

I have done lessons 1-4.

Here is a copy of the code for lesson 4.

Example 2:

I have worked on my chess game.

Here is some code that I wrote this week.

The information below will help you to download the necessary files to run Dr. Java on a Mac or a PC. You will need to download a runtime environment (from Oracle or Amazon) and Dr. Java. There are other development environments if you want to do that and you know how to do it.

This will download the JDK 8 and runtime environment to your downloads folder. Double click the Amazon Corretto pkg file (mac) or zip file (pc) to run it or extract it. On a pc, you will need to open the unzipped amazon-corretto windows-86-jdk folder and copy the jdk1.8.0_242 folder to: c:\Program Files (x86)\Java. If the Java folder is NOT there, create one (right click in the x86 folder and choose New Folder). Name the folder Java. Then open the Java folder and paste the jdk1.8/0_242 folder.

This will download drjava-beta-20190813-220051.jar to your downloads folder. You can run from there by double clicking it. On a mac, you will have to click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner, choose System Preferences, open Security and Privacy, and choose to allow apps from App Store and Unidentified developers in order to run it the first time. Then run your program again, and go back to the Security dialog box and click on Run Anyway.
