This course is designed to develop students’ Spanish language proficiency through the exploration of diverse
media and literature from the Spanish-speaking world. Conducted entirely in Spanish, this course will immerse
students in authentic materials such as films, commercials, TV shows, short films, music, poetry, and visual art.
Through these materials, students will examine cultural practices, perspectives, and products from across Latin
America and Spain. Media will serve as the foundation for learning vocabulary in context, exploring major
historical and cultural topics, and engaging in rich discussions on universal themes such as identity, justice,
memory, resistance, and art.
This is a language and culture course. Students will strengthen all four language skills—listening, speaking,
reading, and writing—while demonstrating growth across the three modes of communication:
interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational. Through a project-based and thematic approach, students will
expand their understanding of the diverse cultures, identities, and voices that make up the Spanish-speaking world.
