Our exemplary choir program includes students with a wide range of talent and experience who enjoy connecting to each other, to their school, and to their community through music. Throughout its history, the choir program at Hill Country has built a tradition of choral excellence, being consistently recognized with numerous state, regional, and local awards. Included in our many prestigious honors are multiple UIL Sweepstakes Awards, as well as consistent Superior ratings, Best in Class, and Best Overall Choir at contests and festivals across the state along with numerous students qualifying for All-District and All-Region Choir honors. Read below for a description of choirs at each level.
Beginning Choir is an introductory course open to all sixth grade students. Beginning Choir is a performance-based class and serves as preparatory learning for the more rigorous seventh and eighth grade choral performing groups. Students enrolled in Beginning Choir will master a variety of musical skills including music reading, sight singing, ear training and rhythm skills. Students will focus on improving the individual voice and developing individual talent while learning to work closely with others. Many performance opportunities will be provided for the Beginning Choir students throughout the school year.
Concert Treble Choir is open to seventh grade treble singers with one or more years of choir experience. All music and activities for this choir are designed to train and develop the maturing voice. Highlights of this course include participation in seasonal concerts, UIL Choir Competition, the Bluebonnet Classic Festival in San Antonio, and school assemblies. Additionally, members of the Honor Treble Choir are given the opportunity to audition for membership in the All-Region Choir.
Varsity Tenor Bass Choir is open to seventh and eighth grade tenor bass singers with one or more years of choir experience. Students in this course will work on individual, small ensemble and large group singing skills at an accelerated level. Students will continue to develop their skills in music reading, sight singing and ear training. Highlights of this course include participation in seasonal concerts, UIL Choir Competition, the Bluebonnet Classic Festival in San Antonio, and school assemblies. Additionally, members of the Tenor Bass Choir are given the opportunity to audition for membership in the All-Region Choir.
Varsity Treble Choir is open to seventh and eighth grade treble singers with one or more years of choir experience. 7th grade members are selected by audition only. All music and activities for this choir are designed to train and develop the maturing voice at an accelerated level. This course offers great depth and challenge to the serious choral student. Highlights of this course include participation in seasonal concerts, UIL Choir Competition, the Bluebonnet Classic Festival in San Antonio, and school assemblies. Additionally, members of the Varsity Treble Choir are given the opportunity to audition for membership in the All-Region Choir.
