Choir is a performance-based class that focuses on developing the singer’s voice and prepares them for being on stage. The choir concerts and performances are our singers’ final test following many hours of preparation and study, and they serve as major grades. A calendar of required events is linked below, and we will send out reminders via Skyward prior to each event. Students must attend all required events!
An unexcused absence from any required event will result in a zero. Excused absences are only permitted at director discretion. Notification related to absences from a parent or guardian is required as soon as possible if there is a conflict.
Each singer will purchase a uniform to wear at concerts and other events as selected by the directors. Specific uniform needs for each choir are outlined below.

Eanes ISD middle school teachers are committed to grading and assessing in the best interest of our students. We believe grades and assessments communicate content knowledge, guide instruction, and reveal opportunities for enrichment and intervention.
Students receive a grade in choir every nine weeks. Topics covered in class follow the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guidelines for choir as established by the State Board of Education. Students’ growth and achievement will be graded as follows:
60% Major Grade: performances (individual, small group, and whole group) and projects
40% Skill Development: daily classwork, quizzes, and activities
Due to the nature of choir performance, major grades cannot be retested. Students with a grade lower than 70 on written quizzes can retest up to an 85.
Late Work: Students may turn in late work at a penalty of 10 points per day. Late work will be indicated in the gradebook by a “1” and a missing designation.
Absent Work: Students who are absent have 1 day to complete work per day missed of school.
