HCMS Cell Phone/Personal Electronic Device Expectations and Policies for Student Use on Campus General Regulations (Applied schoolwide and at any school-related event) “Off and Away All Day” In all grades, when not authorized, personal devices (other than wearable technology) should be stored in backpacks or lockers and turned off or silenced. (Eanes ISD Student Handbook Pg.69) ● The use of electronic devices in locker rooms, restroom areas, or other areas of student privacy while at school is strictly prohibited. ● The school is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen items of this nature. ● The District prohibits unauthorized audio or visual recordings or transmission of audio or visual recordings of other students or staff. Classroom/Learning Environment ● The phone must be on silent/Do Not Disturb and not on person. ● No calling or texting during class time or passing periods. Any parent communication will occur through district channels, e.g. teacher phones, front office, etc. ● Be advised that the teacher or EISD personnel will confiscate the phone or PED at any time to prevent the disruption of the learning environment. District personnel are not responsible for lost or damaged phones or devices. – EISD Student Code of Conduct ● Classroom procedures will be posted on full size paper or larger. ● Classroom procedures follow campus expectations. ● Phone/device privileges will not be used as a reward or incentive. Students are allowed to use cell phones or personal Electronic devices at the following times: ● Before and after school hours ● Principal approval will be required when the teacher’s lesson plan calls for the use of smartphones, PEDs, apps, etc. as a tool for specific educational activities. Any and all use of a cell phone or PED must fall within the expectations outlined in the EISD Student Code of Conduct and the EISD Responsible Use Guidelines (https://www.eanesisd.net/dept/tech/technology-services/technology-roadmap). Discipline Progression for Cell Phone Violations 1. Teacher will collect the device and bring it to the front office (when convenient) for the remainder of the school day. The student can pick up his/her device after 4:00 (3:04 for students with PE waiver) upon completion of the Phone Collection Google form. a. This policy applies for every infraction. There are no warnings or freebies. 2. Third instance (with a single teacher/class) - teacher will write a discipline referral. 3. Violation of Responsible Use as defined by Student Code of Conduct: Parents contacted by administrator and twenty day phone turn-in protocol - Administered by AP.
