This course will help students improve communication skills to an intermediate mid to intermediate high proficiency level in the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing according to TEKS. The goal is to address three modes of communication: interpersonal (two-way), interpretive (one-way like reading/listening) and presentational (present concepts and ideas to an audience). The goal is to be able to understand and communicate about everyday topics for teenagers and young professional adults framed within the culture and idiosyncrasy of the Spanish-speaking world. Class participation in the target language is essential in order to improve proficiency. This course will include exams, quizzes (spoken and written), homework (spoken and written – a minimum of 10 minutes each night) and special projects (spoken and written). Students will read, discuss, present, and write about current events, music, short stories, fables, legends, poems, literary excerpts, short videos, and their interests and experiences.
