Sixth grade Science covers a wide variety of subjects. Please see the course syllabus for specifics.
Course Description:
Sixth grade science is a general science survey course which includes topics in three areas: physical science, life science and earth science. A variety of learning experiences will be incorporated into the curriculum throughout the year. These include labs, lectures, film and video presentations, cooperative learning, and individual work (vocabulary, study guides, labeling of diagrams, practice sheets, etc.)
* Please remind your scholar to bring the school issued, charged IPAD every day.
Discipline Management Plan
School-Wide Expectations:
Students will be responsible, respectful, and safe.
Class Rules and Expectations: These are for when back in person. I have put remote expectations on Google Classroom.
Students Will:
1. Be seated quietly with all materials, ready to learn when class begins.
2. Keep hands, feet, and objects to self.
3. Snacks will be allowed at teacher discretion.
4. Remain at their desk until dismissed by the teacher at the end of class.
5. Be respectful, responsible and safe
6. Leave cell phones powered off in lockers
Consequences:
In the cases of rule infraction, lunch detention, parent contact, and/or office referrals will be used. Other consequences for behavior can be found in the Student Code of Conduct.
Tutoring:
(Tutoring involves explaining and going over material, helping to prepare for tests or quizzes, or answering questions about class work, homework, or labs.)
I am a coach, so I will do tutorial times by appointment. I am more than willing to meet with students during lunch. I will be available Thursday mornings at 7:45.
Availability: I am available to meet with parents during the school day during the following periods. Please set up an appointment to see me. E-mail is the best way to reach me.
I am available 3rd period daily. Also, I am flexible before and after school until volleyball begins.
If a parent or guardian is not available at the above times, we can set up an appointment. E-mail is the best way to reach me.
Homework policy:
Homework will be given a due date. Students are required to complete all assignments. Please refer to the student handbook for further information.
Grading policy:
The quarter grades will be calculated as follows:
60% Major tests
40% Skills Development
Students have until the day before the end of a unit to turn thing in to me.
Skyward Grading Key:
Blank in Skyward = I haven't graded this yet
1 = a missing assignment, but there's still time to get it turned in
0 = missing and the window to turn it in has closed
% grade= what they have earned
Retesting:
Students receiving below an 80% have the opportunity to retake the test and earn up to an 80%. Students earning below 80% on a test are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the retest opportunity. A student needs to consult with his/her teacher at the end of the period regarding procedures. The student needs to take the re-test within 5 days of knowing their test grade. The student may only retake the test one time.
Late-work:
Late work will be accepted by the 6th grade team.
Absent work:
I will follow the handbook’s policies. For each day of absence, they get a day to make it up their work.
AI Policy:
“You may use the MagicSchool tools I assign you to generate practice questions. Please let me know how it supports your learning.”
"Eanes ISD supports the thoughtful and responsible use of AI tools to enhance teaching and learning. In this class, approved AI tools may be used to support instruction, provide practice opportunities, and offer feedback. Students will be clearly informed when AI use is allowed on an assignment. All AI use must follow district policies, including protecting personal information and using only district-approved tools."

Please keep in mind that this schedule is tentative and may vary according to daily lesson plans. An exciting year and interesting curriculum awaits the students. It is very important that students follow classroom procedures and keep up with their work on a daily basis. This will ensure maximum success and help students benefit from the course.
Parents can keep track of class activities and homework assignments by checking their child's planners daily, checking their science folder, and Skyward Parent Access.
