EARN COLLEGE CREDIT IN THE HIGH SCHOOL
Dual credit lets high school students earn both high school and college credit at the same time for the same class at no cost to the student. There are several ways to do this:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit (focused on hands-on job skills). These programs help students get a head start on college, save money, explore career interests, and make the move to college easier.
College in the High School (college-level classes taught at the high school by certified teachers)
Running Start: Eligible 11th and 12th-grade students to earn high school and college credit for tuition-free college courses.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Elma
Elma High School students can earn high school credit and college credit from Washington State CTC’s (Community Technical College) and universities that Elma School District has articulation agreements with! It’s a jump start to post-secondary education.
Our school offers over 20 Career & Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit courses across five Career Clusters:
Agriculture
Health & Family Science
Business
Skilled Technical Sciences
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)
Through these courses, students can earn college credit, at no cost, from our partner institutions, including:
Clover Park Technical College, Grays Harbor College, Bates Technical College, Walla Walla Community College, Spokane Community College, Portland Community College and Pierce College.
Students also have the chance to earn multiple Industry-Recognized Certificates, giving them a valuable head start on their future careers or college pathways.
In addition, there are several opportunities to meet your graduation pathway through all of the CTE courses that we offer.
College in the High School:
Elma offers offers college-level courses to students in grades 11–12 through a partnership with Central Washington University (CWU). These classes are taught by our qualified teachers right on campus, using college-approved curriculum and textbooks, with ongoing oversight and support from CWU faculty and staff.
Eligible students can earn college credit through CWU at no cost, gaining valuable experience and a head start on their higher education goals.

Running Start
Running start allows students in 11th and 12th grade the opportunity to be enrolled in college courses at local community colleges offered online or on the college campus. Students pay no tuition, however, there may be costs for textbooks, fees and transportation.

ASU (Arizona State University) offers online college courses that can be completed during high school to earn dual credits (college and high school credits) at the same time at no cost to students. Students can have an Elma School District Transcript and an ASU Transcript.
