This workshop re-look into the benefits of gross motor activities. Research has shown that gross motor activities benefit children’s in various areas such as attention span and self-regulation of emotions. With better attention span and self-regulation of emotions in young children, it also helps to address one of the common teacher’s challenges such as classroom management. With suggested activities, you will learn about planning gross motor activities with a new perspective.Teachers can creatively create their gross motor activities according to children’s interest and make it more fun and exciting. For instance, by adding imagination and stories to their gross motor activities that will capture and engage children’s attention. In addition, incorporating music and movement will also help to immerse the children in gross motor activities.
Inquiry Story through Stop Motion Animation: Animal Conservation (Pangolins)

Their inquiry into pangolins and conservation works will be presented through stop motion animation, which involves research, planning and presentation. We will suggest how parents can be involved in this inquiry. In addition, how we integrate IT into children's learning.
The Body Can Speak – A Creative Movement Workshop

Teachers often wonder how to conduct movement activities for their children. With the basic knowledge of creative movement, they will gain awareness on how to incorporate elements of dance for preschoolers across other learning domains. They can also promote creative and engaging lessons/experiences for the children.Through this workshop, the teachers will be able to identify and show basic locomotor and non-locomotor movements in a coordinated manner and appreciate the enjoyment of self-expression and communication of ideas/feelings through creative movement activities.

What is a playful inquiry? Inquiry and play-based learning have long since come hand in hand. While the concept of play is almost synonymous with early childhood education, for some educators, the concept of inquiry has left them wondering what this means for their programs and their role with young children. Many of us still struggle to make connections between the two. Children have at their disposal myriad natural abilities such as noticing patterns, telling stories, tinkering, wondering, and imagining. They come into the world pre-wired with these tools and driven to use them to learn and to understand and make sense of the world around them. This interactive workshop will support and guide educators in making connections between play and inquiry as well as generate ideas for creating meaningful provocations to support inquiring through play.

This hands-on workshop will highlight the importance of strengthening the children’s core strength through interactive, hands-on exercises. Different interactive ways to embed it into your classroom experiences will also be shared, and you will learn to identify the signs of weak core muscles and techniques to help children strengthen them.

Learning is no longer restricted to the classroom, but increasingly includes other venues such as the outdoors or in community spaces. This interactive and hands-on workshop features three key principles for the design of meaningful play programme, objectives for learning and space. With hands-on examples, you will learn about design, observation and evaluation and the relationship of people, purpose and play practice.Cooking has plenty of learning opportunities for children. We will discuss "Why we should introduce cooking to children?" and "What are the benefits of cooking?" The presentation will cover the six learning domains, which is in line with the NEL framework and go deeper into connecting cooking activities with our inquiry projects. Another important aspect which will be shared is "What is the safety aspects to take note?" and ways to align with Healthy Meals in Preschool Certification requirement. This includes sharing of "Basic kitchen tools to have in school" and "Ways to store our ingredients in school" so that participants can embark on their cooking activities in their centres smoothly.We will also share the types of food that we have cooked with our children and a simple recipe book to share with the school community.

We will share with you our guided inquiry journey and how progressive learning experiences are planned and carried out through the different stages of inquiry for all levels (Infant Care to Kindergarten Two) that culminate into a class project showcase. We are opening our classrooms and inviting you to take in a plethora of vivid documentation of all the stages of inquiry. Share with you our challenges as we implemented this in our class, strategies we adopted, and how parental collaboration enriches our inquiry experiences, and our children’s learning experiences.

Integrating Engineering into an Inquiry Classroom

Have you ever seen a group of kindergarten children playing with Lego bricks or wooden blocks for hours and insisting on using a particular kind of piece despite the countless number of blocks scattered on the floor? Or a child who takes apart an entirely new toy robot or car with great attempt to put it back together? Have you ever wondered why some children quickly learn how to operate a handphone or tablet before learning how to write? Children are naturally-born engineers. In every child, there is an innate curiosity for things that can be put together or taken apart and for toys that produce light, movement or sound. Children are engineers that require a supportive environment to help them develop their emerging science process skills. As educators, it is our role to recognize the “engineers” in them by promoting the engineer’s habits of mind. But how do we do that? In this short course, participants will revisit what 21st-century teaching and learning are and its implication on introducing engineering to pre-schoolers. Moreover, they will be acquainted with the different skills of engineering and how they can demonstrate these skills across different academic domains, themes, stages of inquiry and through various questioning techniques. Lastly, the course aims to enlighten educators with the life-long benefits of engineering to pre-schoolers beyond the classroom.

This project showcases children’s learning outdoors, to be one with nature and having lots of hands-on experiences. We strive to cultivate the love for nature and how we can develop character building in young children through the project. We will be sharing how we incorporate the inquiry stages in the project from introducing the space, involving children to be a researcher towards the materials used and collected as a school. The project includes a collaborative partnership with families and all the children in the school. We will also share how our older children make predictions and document their findings.
Possibilities of Junk Play – Incorporating Junk Play into Inquiry

We want to encourage inventiveness and creative reuse of recycled materials with children through ‘Junk Play’ (making junk useful) by incorporating a focus recycle material in the learning spaces and around the classroom. We will be introducing constructive play with the concept of ‘pop-up playground’ using the focused materials. Teachers will then plan to include junk play into their classrooms and learning experiences with the elements of child-directed play.

The planning of learning provocations with loose parts and resources constitute the core work where children take ownership of their learning through exploration. Every child is special, with unique combinations of abilities and needs that affect learning (Unicef, 2001). In this workshop, we zoom in to language/ literacy/ motor skills development while introducing how educators can understand the progressiveness of learning goals, the importance of knowing children's current skills, the strategies that can support children's learning and development, and the relationship between motor skills and language and literacy development. Through the workshop, educators can apply the same concept and idea across various learning domains. All children deserve the opportunity to learn in ways that make the most of their strengths and help them overcome their weakness.
