Reminders:
-There is NO required experience with philosophy
-You don't have to "sound smart"
-Only requirement is time and enrollment
-The interest form is not itself a commitment
-We want you on the team!! It's open to all levels
-There is no application or audition for joining!
-2025 is WWU's first year at Ethics Bowl, join now and be a founding member!
*After Fall, club will not be in active session
-The goal of WWU's Ethics Bowl Team will be to genuinely engage with cases and work together to form our own arguments. We are not cutthroat! We aren't set on winning (though it would be nice) ... we mostly just want to have a space to chat and apply ethics!!!
The Ethics Bowl Club may have listed "presidents" for coordination's sake, but we hold no real authority- the title is mostly for organizational purposes. By joining this team, you'll become just as important as any other team member!! Your input and ideas are not only valuable, but essential.
Ethics Bowl is a competition. As such, it requires a lot of preparation. You should anticipate spending about as much time as you would for a 2-credit philosophy course. Luckily- it counts as a 2-credit philosophy course! Meeting times will be determined based on who is able to participate and club members will work to make room for anyone interested in participation. The current plan is to have two 1hr 50min meetings every week. In addition, individual members will be responsible for completing readings independently and thinking about the cases outside of meeting times. Closer to the competition, teams will likely set up extra meetings to finalize preparations.
This club is intended to be incredibly collaborative! We will all think, learn, and grow together! No matter what your level of experience is, your perspective will necessarily create a more well-rounded community, and we would love to have you!
