Band and Orchestra

Band in Dysart:

5th Grade Band

Do you ever want to be in a jazz band, rock band, symphony, or any other band? This is the right class for you. This course will be offered to 5th graders and previous experience is not required. Students will learn the fundamentals of playing any kind of music on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Instruments offered are the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and percussion (drums and bells). This class will perform at our winter and spring orchestra concerts, as well as smaller performances during the school day. This is a performance-based class and requires participation in concerts/performances.

6th grade band

This course will be offered to 6th graders and previous experience is not required. Beginning students are encouraged to join and will go through a practice program to catch up to the other students. Students will learn the fundamentals of jazz and rock, along with music theory. Instruments offered are the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and percussion (drums and bells). This class will perform at our winter and spring orchestra concerts, as well as smaller performances during the school day. This is a performance-based class and requires participation in concerts/performances.

7th and 8th grade Band

The 7th and 8th graders represent our school at many special events throughout the year. Beginning students are encouraged to join and will go through a practice program to prepare them for high school. They will perform at the Veterans Day Tribute, the Winter Concert, the Dysart Fine Arts Festival, the school spring musical, and other various concerts in our community. This is a performance-based class and requires participation in concerts/performances.

Orchestra in dysart:

5th Grade String Orchestra

This course will be offered to 5th graders and previous experience is not required. If you would like to learn how to play violin, viola, or cello, this is the class for you. Students will learn the fundamentals of playing a string instrument. This class will perform at our winter and spring orchestra concerts, as well as smaller performances during the school day. This is a performance-based class and requires participation in concerts/performances.

6th grade String orchestra

This course is offered to 6th graders and includes students that have playing violin, viola, and cello for at least 1 year. Beginning students are encouraged to join and will go through a practice program to catch up to the other students. This class will perform at our winter and spring orchestra concerts as well as smaller performances during the school day. This is a performance-based class and requires participation in concerts/performances.

7th and 8th grade String Orchestra

o     Clarinet/Saxophone- Reeds (#2 for Beginners), Cork Grease, and Swab

o     Trumpet/Baritone/Tuba- Valve Oil and Tuning Slide Grease

o     Trombone- Slide Oil and Tuning Slide Grease

o     Percussion- Mallets and Drum Sticks

o     Violin/Viola/Cello- Rosin and Chin Rest

 How​ ​To​ ​Get ​ An Instrument:​ 

1)      Buy A New Instrument​-​ ​(Expensive)​ Please contact me if you are planning on buying an instrument.  I would want to help to make sure you get a quality instrument that will help your child succeed.

2)      Buy A Used Instrument​- ​ (​Be ​ Careful) Some instruments can cost hundreds to repair.  You can contact me with any questions.  If you already have an instrument, I would be happy to look it over to make sure it is in good working order.​     ​ 

3)      Rent An Instrument​-​ ​(Recommended)​ These​ ​​instruments are fully insured​ and​ ​most of what you pay is built up in equity towards a new instrument in the future.​  ​Buying​ ​an​ ​instrument​ ​is​ ​a​ ​big​ ​investment​ ​and​ ​this​ ​is​ ​a​ ​good​ ​alternative​ ​to​ ​start with.
