Welcome! Music Education at Sunset Hills provides learning opportunities that aim to actively engage students in exploring their own musical possibilities while making cross-curricular connections with their general education classes.
Have a fantastic summer break! See you at Meet the Teacher Night!
I am available for in-person or virtual conferences by appointment. Please email me at randall.badsgard@dysart.org to set one up, if desired.
We are thrilled to announce our K-8 School Musical for the 2026-27 School Year! Something Rotten! Jr. is a hilarious musical comedy set in the Renaissance, where two struggling playwright brothers try to outshine the wildly popular William Shakespeare. When they turn to a soothsayer for help, they create a brand-new kind of show filled with singing, dancing, and nonstop laughs. Packed with clever humor, catchy songs, and larger-than-life characters, Something Rotten! Jr. is a fun-filled celebration of creativity, teamwork, and following your dreams.
Our goal is to increase the quality of all aspects of our performance to meet the elevated expectations associated with our shows every year! The only way our shows can be extraordinary is through the support of our community, and we would love to involve you in a way that you would enjoy. From design, to sets, to costumes, to makeup and hair, to sales, and special effects, we encourage you to connect with our production team (randall.badsgard@dysart.org and michelle.paxman@dysart.org) to find a good fit for your skills and passion! Each year, parent volunteers move on to high school with their students, which opens up new opportunities for leadership in our production team. This year, we are looking for Set Construciton, Art, and Props Coordinators. Please contact us if you feel like you can make a difference in these areas!
Our annual tradition continues! In May 2027, our Afterglow Choir will be making their 10th overnight trip to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA for another memorable exhibition performance. This performance opportunity is open to students in our Afterglow Choir program (7th & 8th grade) who commit to additional after-school rehearsals and fundraising.
My name is Mr. Badsgard, or “Mr. B” to my students, and I am the Music Teacher at Sunset Hills Elementary School. GO BOBCATS!! This is my 20th year at Sunset Hills!
In addition to teaching General Music, I am the both the Choir and Theatre Director. Giving kids extraordinary experiences on stage is the best part of my job! I enjoy living in the community, just a mile from the school with my wife and kids. As I'm sure my students will tell you, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, as well!
Please feel free to contact me via email or Parent Square at any time during the school year with questions regarding our thriving Performing Arts programs, here at Sunset Hills.
Thank you for your continued support of Music and the Arts in our school!
Musically,
Randall Badsgard, M.Ed, M.A.Ed.
