Student Requirements to Qualify for the
Arizona Seal of Civics Literacy
To qualify for the Arizona State Seal of Civics Literacy, a student will complete:
Complete all Social Studies requirements for graduation with GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.
Pass the Arizona Civics Exam with a Score of 60% or better (Class of 2023-2025), 70% or better (Class of 2026)
Complete portfolio requirements from each of the 4 categories:
Civic Learning Programs (Must Complete 3)
Pass AP Government and Politics Exam with a 3 or Better
Attend Approved Summer Institute and/or Intensive (Approved list on ADE Website)
JROTC (Must participate for 2 years minimum)
School sponsored extracurricular activity (Approved List on ADE Website)
Civic Engagement Activities - Must be completed OUTSIDE of the school day (Must Complete 2)
Serving on School Site Council
Member of a commission or Youth Advisory Board
Tribal Council
Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts
Attend at least 2 public meetings (School Board, City Council etc.)
Volunteer on a political campaign
Participation in voter registration, voter education, or get-out the vote campaign
Service Learning or Community Service
Must Complete 75 hours (over 4 years of High School Enrollment)
OR
Enlist in the United States Military prior to graduation
Complete Written Reflection - For purpose of demonstrating civic knowledge (TBD)
