Here are some suggestions on what you can do at home to reinforce concepts we are learning in class.
Reading/Writing
Have your child read their homework Reading stories EVERY night -- not just on the night the story was assigned.
Study the sight words we have learned thus far.
Give your child a one syllable word and see if they can tell you every sound of the word. For example:
grip -- /g/ /r/ /i/ /p/
train -- /t/ /r/ /ā / /n/
Writing
Have your child practice writing a simple sentence such as: I see the dog. Encourage them to use a capital letter in the beginning of the sentence, finger spaces between words and use end punctuation (period or question mark or exclamation point).
Math
Place numbers 1 - 20 (flashcards or index cards) in front of your child in random order. See if they can place all the numbers in chronological order.
Ask your child, "What two numbers make up 14?" Your child should say, "10 and 4" or "10 + 4."
