If you are looking to further your child's choral experience, I highly recommend the following choirs. Rehearsing in the heart of Phoenix, these non-profit organizations provide quality music and choral experiences. Each group travels around the country and around the world for numerous competitions and festivals.
Northern Arizona University Shrine of the Ages Choir
This is NAU's premier mixed chorus. They travel across the country and across the world to perform and share their love of music using their voices. Mrs. Devonport is a proud alumnus of this prestigious ensemble. Below, you will find videos of choral pieces that may tickle your fancy!
This website offers games and activities for children who are curious about the symphony. Some features and content throughout SFSKids include: a fun and playful series of educational modules presented as immersive environments and using animal avatars as guides; the ability to explore various linkages between composers, instruments and music compositions; the use of some game-based techniques to motivate repeated listening and engagement; gesture-controlled simulation scenarios using the mouse and keyboard to provide “hands-on” experiences of playing instrument and conducting music; interactive online tutorials to learn about music basics; the opportunity for users to compose and notate their own original music; and much more.
This year, the Phoenix Symphony celebrates its 70th season. This local orchestra performs at Symphony Hall and The Orpheum Theatre, both located in downtown Phoenix. Many concerts are offered during the season included themed concerts like Harry Potter, Disney, Music in Movies, and many more! The Phoenix Symphony offers student rush tickets so rush over to their website to see which concerts you may be interested in attending!
Did you know that we have Grammy Award winning artists around the valley? The Phoenix Chorale is a local Grammy Award winning ensemble with some of the best singers in Arizona. This group usually holds concerts in the east valley, and in Sun City. Check out their website for concert dates and ticket information. I highly encourage you to watch them and witness their ethereal sound! (Also, some of Mrs. Devonport's friends and previous choir teacher and vocal instructor have sung in this amazing group!)
