My name is Logan MacDonald, but please just call me Mac! I am so excited that you are interested in the WCHS Choir Program. Willow is home to 4 different choirs. Below you can find more info about each one, and the name you will find for the class on your course selection!
One important thing! Due to WCHS having amazing coaches, sponsors, and directors, I have yet to find a single athletic, extra-curricular, academic, or artistic program that would not allow a student to be involved in the choir program in some way! Varsity Athletes, Actors, Marching Band members, West-MEC students, IB/Cambridge/AP/Honors students, and Student Council. We all work together to make sure that our students can be involved.
Meet the Choirs of WCHS!
*** On your course selection you may only see one show choir, JV Show Choir! That is because most of our freshman students take JV before advancing to Varsity. During the audition process, all students are considered for both JV and Varsity, and making that change is done easily given director's approval to the counseling office.***
Varsity Show Choir (Audition Required)
THIS CLASS IS A PE CREDIT
On course selection this group is Varsity Show Choir, but in our community we are known as Evolution Show Choir. Show Choir is about high energy singing and dancing, and Evolution is the highest level we offer at WCHS. From the bright lights of competition in California, to the warm embrace of a sold out audience here at WC, things are never boring in Evolution!
JV Show Choir (Audition Required)
THIS CLASS IS A PE CREDIT
The Willow Wisps are our entry level show choir, and are labeled as JV Show Choir on your course selection sheet. The Wisps are a group for those excited about taking that first leap into the show choir scene. Here we take the same high energy approach as we do at the Varsity level, while also working on the fundamentals of show choir choreography and vocal production that will be they keys to success moving forward. From Surprise AZ to Burbank CA, we can't wait to show you what the Wisps will do next!
Concert Choir (Audition Required)
The Willow Canyon Concert Choir is our upper level traditional "stand & sing" style choir. Concert Choir is about taking the basic musical knowledge our students have and bringing it to the next level. If you are looking for a deep dive into how music comes together, using everything from South African folk music to the likes of Billie Eilish, this may be the group for you.
Mixed Choir (No Audition Required)
Are you interested in continuing music, but maybe not ready for everything that comes with being a part of our upper level choirs? Well then today is your lucky day! The Willow Canyon Mixed Choir is a great starting point. We sing music that will prepare you for a future in any of our audition choirs, while also providing a more low stakes environment for you to see if choir at the high school level is for you. So come and sing with us, and see what all the buzz is about.
