What is the Baccalaureate?
The central focus of the Welsh Baccalaureate at Key Stage 4 is to provide a vehicle for 14-16 year olds to reinforce and foster essential skills and employability. The qualification will help learners prepare for the future by fostering skills, attributes and types of behavior that will be valued by Post-16 educators and potential employers. Through the Welsh Baccalaureate, the learners will raise their skill levels and confidence, enabling and empowering them to take on their role as responsible and active citizens within a diverse society. Together with the process of building skills and through that process, the Welsh Baccalaureate gives the learners the opportunity to build their knowledge and understanding of society, the community they live in and awareness of issues, global events and perspectives. There will be two tiers to the Qualification: National Bac = GCSE A*-C (Level 2) & Foundation Bac = GCSE Pass/Pass* (Level 1). The intention of the Baccalaureate is to develop skills that are essential for education, life and the world of work.
