EXTERNSHIPS
EXTERNSHIPS
An externship is a short-term, real-world learning experience where students can shadow or work alongside professionals in fields like healthcare, law, or business. These experiences typically last from a few days to a few weeks and can be in-person, hybrid, or virtual. While often unpaid, externships offer a valuable opportunity to explore careers, make professional connections, and gain practical insight. They’re a great alternative for students who are unable to fit a Work-Based Learning class in their course schedule but still want a meaningful career experience.
The Dennis and Yarmouth Police Departments will provide up to 24 hours of observational experience to the law enforcement field divided into the following segments:
1. Up to 1 shift to observe communications and coordinator of police operations in the communications center
2. Up to 1 shift to observe patrol operations on a ride-along with a police officer in the field
3. Up to 1 shift in a specified area of the field as agreed upon by the student and police leadership
Enrollment in all Connecting Activities are subject to approval, eligiblity, funding and capacity limits. D-Y Police Explorers have preference on selection for limited slots.
*This experience takes place outside of the school day.
ARTWORKS:
Application deadline October 31st.
For over 25 years, the award-winning ArtWorks program has long-provided students in grades 9-12 with the unique opportunity to explore the creative economy through hands-on learning. Students work alongside a local artist mentor as they receive one-on-one instruction and feedback in their chosen medium through a 40-hour externship that coincides with the traditional school year.
