English III will focus on the DTHS English Department’s Ten Essential Skills, emphasizing the question, “What does it mean to be an American?” Through the study of classic and contemporary texts (fiction, nonfiction, essay, poetry, drama), scholars will develop a working definition of what it means to be an American and how this concept has evolved over time. Scholars will engage in critical reading, thinking about, and discussing complex texts—in addition to participating in the research process (including interviewing)—that culminates in an ongoing large-scale project (essays, student-led discussions, and formal presentations) that argues and exemplifies their claim.
Students should check Google Classroom regularly as I post copies of handouts, notes, audio, texts, etc. for their use. Additionally, students will be given assignments periodically through Google Classroom.
COVID
Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom; however, ALL grades will be entered in Skyward. If you have questions regarding if an assignment is missing or not, please refer to Skyward first.
If there is an * in the gradebook on Skyward, that means that the assignment grade has not been entered yet.
