What is the Science GL Assessment?
The Science GL Assessment is a test used in schools to check students’ understanding of science. It is designed by an organisation that creates assessments used in many international schools. In Science GL assessments are sat by Grade 7,8 &9. Grade 6 do not sit a GL assessment in Science at the end of the academic year.
The test covers key areas of science in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences and scientific skills. It focuses on how well students understand important ideas, can apply their knowledge, and solve problems in unfamiliar settings.
The results help:
Teachers see students’ strengths and areas to improve
Parents understand their child’s progress
Students know what they are doing well and what to work on next
The questions are usually multiple choice and written in clear, simple English to support all learners.
How should I prepare?
The Science GL Assessment largely covers material that has been studied this year, and has some questions to review learning from prior grades. You will have been fully prepared in class, and will do activities and revision in lessons over Term 3. Your teacher will provide supplementary materials via google classroom.
In addition to this you could:
Use the GL checklist (below) to review the key topics
Use BBC Bitesize to support in understanding in topics that you are not confident
Use Seneca to review key topics
CGP have 10 minute tests
Summary
The key thing to remember is that revision of learning is an ongoing process. We don't expect you to be doing hours and hours of learning each evening. If you are fully engaged in class, and participate in activities then you are already well prepared. Some regular revision is always a good thing, and these are just resources to supplement your revision.
