Training Sites
The Deer Valley Unified School District is a large district. It covers 367 square miles and services portions of the cities of Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, Anthem, New River, Cave Creek and unincorporated areas of Maricopa County in the northwestern portion of the Phoenix metropolitan area. DVUSD educates students from Preschool through 12th grade. Currently, nearly 34,000 students are enrolled in the district in 15 K-6 schools, 16 K-8 schools, three middle schools, five high schools, and one alternative campus. In addition, more than 1,200 preschool students are enrolled in 19 typical preschool sites and 17 developmental preschool sites for preschoolers with special needs. Additionally, DVUSD provides before-school and after-school programs through its Community Education department. The district also proves online learning program courses and evening high school courses for students who need alternative schedules.
The Student Services Department in DVUSD provides supports and services to approximately 4,000 students identified with special education needs and an additional 1,000 students with 504 accommodations. The district provides instruction in elementary school across the district for students with gifted abilities also has two programs housed on campuses that serve students with highly gifted abilities. DVUSD employs 35 school psychologists. Other staff members working in the Student Support Services department include speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, adaptive P.E teachers, special education teachers, audiologists, teachers of the hearing impaired, teachers of the visually impaired, and paraprofessionals.
Deer Valley Unified School District provides a wide variety of educationally-based services to diverse populations. Trainees will receive a broad experience with diverse populations. In addition, the internship program at DVUSD values diversity among staff members and strongly encourages individuals with diverse backgrounds to apply.
Our 2023-2024 Specialist interns are assigned to Sonoran Foothills, Sunset Ridge, Mirage and Desert Mountain .
