Meet Our Supervisors


Sean M. McGlaughlin, Ph.D., NCSP

University of Missouri-Columbia

Dr. Sean McGlaughlin is the Psychologist Coordinator for the Deer Valley Unified School District. Dr. McGlaughlin supervises all levels of intern and practicum students  He earned both his master's and doctorates in school psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  He completed an APPIC internship in 2004 through the Nebraska Internship Consortium  Professional Psychology and was assigned to the Omaha Public Schools.  In 2012, his family moved from Nebraska to Arizona, and he began working for the Deer Valley Unified School District. Dr. McGlaughlin is both licensed and certified in the state of Arizona.  He is a member of both the Arizona Association of School Psychologists and the National Association of School Psychologists.  His research interests include specific learning disability identification, students who struggle with Math, cognitive assessment, autism spectrum disorders, and effective supervision of interns. When asked why he loves Deer Valley, Dr. McGlaughlin stated, “It’s about the strong community of school psychologists we have.  Our team of psychologists is the best in the state!”  Dr. McGlaughlin’s approach to supervision is generally developmental he feels it is important to meet an intern where they are and feels there is no one size fits all approach. Sometimes the supervisor has to serve as a teacher, sometimes as a counselor, and sometimes as a consultant. When not focusing on school psychology, Dr. McGlaughlin enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons.  They enjoy going to the movies, taking family trips, gaming, and the fine arts.  

Sheri L. Orrahood, Psy.D., NCSP

Argosy University

Dr. Sheri Orrahood earned her doctorate through Argosy University-Phoenix in 2013.  She completed her internship with the Avondale Elementary School District in 2012, and in 2013, she became employed as a school psychologist in the Deer Valley Unified School District, where she continues her work.   Dr. Orrahood is licensed as a psychologist in the state of Arizona.  She also is an active member of the American Psychological Association (APA), National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and Arizona Association of School Psychologists (AASP).  She has served on the Advocacy Committee for AASP since 2017.  Professional interests include assessment and intervention for students with executive functioning deficits and developmental disabilities, and school-based trauma-informed practices.  She has completed Phase I training for the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, and she is currently completing the certification training for Phase II.  Dr. Orrahood has been supervising practicum students and school psychology interns since 2018.  She utilizes a developmental approach to supervision with her students.  Personal interests include hiking, playing flute, and doing Sudoku puzzles.  In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, attending symphonic concerts and playing card games with her family.

Shelby L. McGrew, Ph.D., NCSP

Mississippi State University

Dr. Shelby McGrew earned her doctorate through Mississippi State University in December of 2018. She completed her internship with the Avondale Elementary School District in 2018. Dr. McGrew has worked for the Deer Valley Unified School District for three years. Dr. McGrew is currently placed at Esperanza Elementary, a preschool through sixth grade Title I school. Dr. McGrew also serves on the preschool assist team and is a mentor for new to the district psychologists. Dr. McGrew is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Professional interests include trauma-informed practices within the school setting, academic and behavioral interventions, and teacher consultation to empower classroom teachers to use proactive, trauma informed strategies to create a positive classroom environment. Dr. McGrew is also an adjunct faculty member for the School Psychology program at Ottawa University in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. McGrew selected Deer Valley Unified School District due to the “unconditional support and encouragement from a phenomenal group of psychologists with many varying interests. No matter than question or concern, assistance is only an email or phone call away”. Outside of work responsibilities, Dr. McGrew enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and pets, football, and binge watching television series.
