The Hillcrest STEM department assigns this project to our STEM 1 students for a variety of reasons.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. We believe that this project incorporates all of these subjects. Students get hands-on experience with science, technology, engineering and math.
Through this project, students are able to:
Use the design process to develop ideas, brainstorm, plan and sketch, create a a CAD diagram, create a model/prototype, build and test their design, and communicate results.
work with a team and develop quality teamwork skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, compromise, and time-management.
Use technology to create a 3D model/diagram of their ideas for a car.
Create a model of a larger project.
Get real-world experience safely using a variety of materials and tools.
Learn how to safely use tools with adult supervision.
Practice solving problems and overcoming obstacles.
Practice using time-management skills with interim due dates.
Feel accomplished and proud of work they've created.
Get outside of the classroom to see how STEM is used outside of school.
Ask for help from adults and learn valuable skills from adults in their lives.
Have fun!!
