This advanced level course is an in depth study of the various aspects of the theatre and acting. Students will apply a variety of acting techniques as they produce scenes and one act plays

demonstrate various acting techniques

While is is not required, Students in this class are encouraged to audition for the main stage productions in both semesters.

Class Rules

Must use Pencil ONLY on all scripts
You are expected to complete all homework assignments before class the next day.
Come to class with all supplies, including your script and a charged Chromebook.
Be memorized before the date required of you. The sooner you are memorized the sooner you will be able to explore your character and the scene.
No food/gum/candy/drinks in class with the exception of water
Do not call out in class. If you have a question raise your hand
You are responsible for knowing all information in the syllabus.

Performance Reports!

What is it?

A performance report for live theater is a written review that evaluates and critiques a specific theatrical production. It includes observations about the acting, direction, set design, and other production elements. The report explains how these choices contributed to the overall effectiveness of the performance.

Why do we have them for the acting classes?

We see live performances and write performance reports so we can better understand how storytelling works onstage. Watching live theatre helps us notice acting choices, movement, voice, and design elements that don’t always come through on a screen. Writing a performance report encourages us to think critically about what we saw and why certain choices were effective. This process helps us become more thoughtful audience members and stronger performers.

At the Beginning of the year students will receive a detailed explanation of the assignment and talk about how they can do it easily. A slide dec and template will be available to them in canvas for any questions. Through out the year there are several opportunities to see live theatre for free. In the newsletter we will post any other upcoming opportunities that happen in the community that may or may not be free.

For this assignment a student may see any live theatrical performance. This does not include a dance show, choir show, or band show. Details on this will be shared with them in the first week of school. This assignment happens in both semesters and is required. It has the potential to drop a grade significantly so DO NOT BLOW THIS ONE OFF! They will have the entire semester to do this. and it must be turned in within 2 weeks of seeing the show.
