This course is designed to…

This course will introduce students to the technical and mechanical aspects of the theatre and available technical careers. Students will draft their own designs and construct stage scenery, as well as learn to use the lighting and sound equipment for the stage.

SkillsUSA

As a CTE program students in this class will be members of the CTSO SkillsUSA. Participation in this CTSO does not require additional money but it will provide additional opportunities for competiton.

Other info

This is a 2 year program and students who complete both years will take a Technical Skills Assessment (TSA) at the end of the second year as well as complete OSHA10 training, a life long certification. Students who pass the TSA will also recieve a CTE Certificate at graduation.

As part of this program outside hours are required. See below for more info.

Work Force

CTE is meant to help students on a path to a career. Students who complete at least 1 year in the program and show competency and relyability can apply to be a part of our work force. This is an emplyment opportunity for students to work on non drama productions and get paid! Students will get a real paycheck and it is something they can put on a resume. For more information, reach out to Ms. Munson.

Outside Hours

As a CTE program, In this class outside lab hours are required to give career-type experience. Every student must work each semester on the school productions. They will work on building crew in class, with additional time in lights, sound, costumes, makeup, and/or props. Students are responsible to make sure they have completed their hours before the final show each semester. More information will be given in class and hours will vary. Students are asked to choose a different crew for each show.

Safety

Safety will be a major priority in Stage production. We will be working with power tools and learning how to use them properly. Failure to comply with all safety instructions will result in removal from class. Some of the tools include (but are not limited to) table and miter saws, drills, staple and nail guns as well as a variety of hand tools.

Students will be trained and tested on the use of each power tool before being allowed to use them in class. There is also a required tool permissionslip that will be given prior to working with the tools.

Students will also be required to have apropreate clothing each day. Students must wear close toe shoes daily and have clothes that they are ok to paint in (these can be left at school) and have any long hair tied back. students not follwoing the dress code for this class will not be able to work that day and will lose dialy participation points.

Students will recieve this document in class and will be required to bring it back signed before they may work with power tools in the shop.

Class Rules

Must use Pencil ONLY on all scripts
You are expected to complete all homework assignments before class the next day.
Come to class with all supplies, including your script and a charged Chromebook.
Wear closed toe shoes, Have hair tied back, and no jewlery (have paint clothes)
Absolutely no headphones at any time!
No food/gum/candy/drinks in class with the exception of water
Do not call out in class. If you have a question raise your hand
You are responsible for knowing all information in the syllabus.
