Almost all walk up to math students have now returned their walk up math committment forms to me. If your child has not brought home a form to be signed, please let me know. This agreement helps us to be sure the kids and families continue to understand what is expected to help make math walk up successful. If students are struggling with math acceleration, we may need to review the committment form and discuss options moving forward. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mrs. Mahoney has assured me that gifted clustes in 7th and 8th Grade ELA are working from above grade level Wordly Wise vocabulary curriculum. While our staffing at NC does not allow us to offer Advanced ELA periods for our verbally gifted learners, differentiated materials should be used in class and that included vocabulary and novels.
I have contacted the 7/8 Teaching Team to ask for dates in each quarter that I might be able to pull our middle school gifted learners to offers IBMYP Gifted Workshops as I've done in past years. While DVUSD K-8 schools are not staffed for gifted services in 7th and 8th (outside of gifted testing), whenever possible I like to try to meet with the kids quarterly to provide some enrichment. When I have those dates pinned down, I will share with families as the kids will miss their gen ed classes on some Early Release Fridays to make those workshops possible as I miss working with our gifted middle school learners!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
