THE YOUNG WOMEN'S ALLIANCE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Class of 2024 Application
The Young Women’s Alliance scholarship program is a key component for the organization to give back to our community. By improving access to post-secondary attainment, we are a part of the systemic change needed to create a more equitable future for young women. We know at YWA that we must be intentional and strategic when it comes to finding future women leaders and breaking down barriers that stand in the way of them pursuing their education goals. The YWA scholarship program is the access that undeserved young women need to become future leaders of tomorrow.
The YWA scholarship program offers resources and support to applicants to help completion rates, and in 2022, awarded five $5,000 scholarships. YWA is committed to reaching young women, specifically high school seniors in Del Valle ISD — including those who identify with the LGBTQIA community; Black, Indigenous, and students of color; first-generation students; students with disabilities; and students from low-income families — who are pursuing a post-secondary education at any accredited trade-school program, two-year associates program, or four-year college in the United States. Each scholarship will be awarded over the course of two semesters, with the goal of supporting these young women through their entire first year of college.
By partnering with Del Valle ISD, YWA’s scholarship program helps address inequities in the Austin metro area and invests in the future of women leaders of Austin.

The YWA came to Del Valle High School and did an information session over their Scholarship program for the class of 2023. They will be selecting 6 seniors at DVHS that meet the criteria for their scholarship and each will be awarded $5,000.
Class of 2022 YWA Scholarship Recipients
Adlemi Itzel Cordero
Adlemi will be attending the University of Texas at Austin to pursue a major in Biomedical Engineering. She aspires to gain skills that will enable her to become a leader with an open mindset that is reliable and cooperative — and ultimately become a role model for young girls.
Kemyra Johnson
Kemrya is headed to Texas State University in the fall, planning to pursue a major in Biochemistry, achieving her biggest dream today – going to college!
"In the fall, I am most excited to be in a new environment. I think change can be a great thing and can help one grow better as a person. I’m also excited to make new friends and make great memories."
Esmeralda Mancilla
Esmeralda plans to continue her education at Austin Community College and complete an applied associate’s degree in Biotechnology before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin to complete her career pathway.
"I am currently taking Biotechnology classes at Del Valle High School, and I plan to complete my biotech certification in the fall. In the future, I want to give back to my community just like YWA has done for me."
Carla Vences
"Howdy, y’all! I am a senior at Del Valle High School, class of 2022. I enjoy picnics with my friends, jamming out to music, and exploring the amazing things that Austin has to offer. I am beyond excited to share that I plan to further my academic career at the University of Texas at Austin, where I will be majoring in Business. I am so excited about this journey, and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for me. I want to take a minute to thank the Young Women’s Alliance Scholarship for their support, as well as my mom, sister, coaches, all of the teachers that have instructed me to this point, and my friends who have been of great support. Without any of these amazing individuals to cheer me on, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Hook ’em, Horns!'
Lisset Angeles
Lisset will be a first-generation college student attending either Texas State University or Austin Community College in the fall.
"I’ve always wanted to become a role model to young girls seeking to be in industries where men typically dominate. I didn’t have many role models growing up, but always heard how girls are also capable of doing it, so I would like to actually empower girls by showing them it’s possible."
