"Dutch Shepherd Breed to enter the
Herding Group in July 2027
The American Dutch Shepherd Association has submitted a petition seeking acceptance into the AKC Stud Book and for the Dutch Shepherd to be eligible to compete in the Herding Group. Staff recommends that the AKC Board of Directors approve the petition as well as the proposed breed standard.
If approved by the Board, the breed will be moved from the Foundation Stock Service® into the Stud Book of the American Kennel Club on June 30, 2027.
This will be discussed further at the September Board meeting."

We are excited to announce that AKC Meet the Breeds® returns to New York City January 23-24th, 2027, at the Jacob K. Javits Center.
Last year, the AKC welcomed more than 33,000 dog lovers to our event where attendees had the opportunity to meet more than 100 breeds of dogs, speak directly with knowledgeable breed experts, experience exciting demonstrations showcasing canine sports, skills, and learn about the various roles dogs play in our society.
As one of the American Kennel Club’s most impactful flagship events, Meet the Breeds continues to play an important role in advancing public education about the importance of purebred dogs, responsible dog ownership, and the many ways people can become can be active and bond with their dogs.
