Athletes must attend school for at least half of the instructional day to participate in practices or games the same day unless excused by the principal for approved reasons.
Scholars must maintain an 85% attendance rate or higher each semester to remain eligible. Both excused and unexcused absences will count towards attendance.
Athletes must maintain a 2.0 GPA and have passing grades in all classes to play.
Academic eligibility will be reviewed by coaches at two-week intervals.
Scholars who fall below academic expectations may be placed on probation and must demonstrate academic improvement to remain eligible.
The Durham Charter Athletic Department maintains a Zero Tolerance Policy for the following behaviors. These actions will result in automatic disciplinary action, including possible suspension or removal from the team, without warnings or second chances.
Zero Tolerance Behaviors Include:
Fighting or physical violence (on or off school grounds)
Possession or use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
Bullying, harassment, or threats (including in-person or digital)
Disrespect toward coaches, teachers, officials, or teammates
Stealing or vandalism
Cheating or academic dishonesty
Skipping school or unexcused absences from class or practice
Any behavior that puts the safety or integrity of the team at risk
To be eligible for Middle School/High School sports, scholars must have a concussion form and an up-to-date physical form completed by a doctor on file with the Athletic Department. Forms are valid for one year from the date of completion and must be submitted to team coaches on or before the first day of tryouts.
