A Water (Animas River Study, Build Colorado River Map, John Wesley Powell study & topo map building)

III Food Chain and Food Web ( “Where does your dinner come from?” page 740)

A Producer (plants) (Introduce with reading assessment, pages 740 – 2)

B Consumer Begin lesson with review of food web diagram (handout, copied from Page 743)

1) Herbivore Activity: Have students look at another food web diagram (different from page 743),

Try to find mistake…the black tail hare might be out of place???

2) Carnivore Each student will make 4 index cards from the diagram. Use these cards to play

3) Omnivore food chain game. Students get cards and try to make food chains. Have students

C Decomposers make up the rules of the game, e.g. should it be timed? Points? Etc.

1) Bacteria

2) Fungi

D Food Web (5 levels) (Activity: Using same cards from above, have students do a “Web of

1) Products Life” circle. In a circle, each student has a card. Instructor facilitates

2) Primary Consumer connections with a ball of string . What happens when one strand of the web is cut?

3) Secondary Consumer See BOEP manual page 241)

4) Tertiary Consumer

5) Decomposers

IV Energy Pyramid (Do Energy balance lab using water to simulate energy levels)

V Summary (look at Trifold Flip Book) of III, IV and V above
