Koru Lounge (under 2 years)
Our Koru Lounge has dedicated spaces inside and outside for infants and toddlers, with kaiako who have had special training for this age group. We have created this space with our youngest tamariki in mind, where they can feel loved, cared for, and respected with low ratios - 1:3.
Our mission is to offer a nurturing, flexible and peaceful environment. Our peaceful approach to teaching and learning is one of utmost respect for the child. Inspired by the work of Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber, we have created a space which allows children to discover as much as possible on their own.
The outdoor space is connected to the room and children can access this throught the day, or join their older siblings/peers.
Each child has a primary caregiver who tends to all their intimate care needs. This provides them with the comfort of knowing a familiar adult is close by and fully present, sensitively observing their cues and gestures. The child looks forward to the next dance of co-operation and togetherness with their caregiver. This is a place where relationships are the key to everything else that goes on. The daily routine is based on the tamariki present and their own individual needs, our babies eat, sleep, and drink their bottles when they need them.
Each day is made up of lots of free play both inside and outside in an environment planned by their primary caregiver guided by tamariki interests
